Creating a Facebook event page can be a good way to reach a large audience.
You’ve already put posters up on telephone poles across the neighborhood and distributed fliers on the local college campus, but there is another way to reach out to a potential audience for the concert that you’re promoting: Facebook. By advertising your concert on Facebook, you can take advantage of the social media networking aspects of the site: people can leave messages on the event page, updates about the event can be posted instantly and multimedia, such as images, videos or audio clips, can be posted on the event’s wall page. To advertise your concert, create an event page, send out invitations and then get the word out.
Step 1
Click the “Create an Event” link on the right side of your Facebook home screen.
Step 2
Select a date and start time for the concert in the “When?” entry. You can also designate an end time by clicking “Add end time.” This is especially useful if the concert is hosted in a venue that has a closing time.
Step 3
Enter a name for the concert in the “What are you planning?” box.
Step 4
Enter the address for the concert in the “Where?” box. If you have a specific street address, click “Add street address” to add street, city and ZIP code information.
Step 5
Enter additional information about the venue or concert in the “More info?” box. Band and set lists, minimum age or drink requirements, and dress code information can all be entered in this box.
Step 6
Uncheck “Show the guest list on the event page” if you wish to keep the guest list private.
Step 7
Click “Add Event Photo” on the left side of the screen. Select an image and click “OK” to upload it.
Step 8
Click “Select Guests” and click on people from your friends list to invite to the concert. Click “Save and Close” to complete the guest list.
Step 9
Click “Create Event” to create the concert’s event page.
Step 10
Click on “Share” on the event page and select “In a group” from the menu. Enter the name of a Facebook group and click “Share Event” to post the concert event link to that group’s wall. Facebook groups to consider advertising in include regional music groups and groups within the same genre or style of the concert’s bands. In addition, if bands playing in the concert have their own Facebook group, post the event link there.
