5 people killed in mall shooting in Washington
Five people were killed late Friday in a mass shooting at a shopping mall in Washington state, police said.
Multiple law-enforcement agencies surrounded the area near Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, after receiving reports of shots fired at a Macy's store around 7 p.m. PT on Friday night.
The gunman remains at large. Police were still searching for the suspect and told residents to stay away from the area.
"This is a senseless act," Steve Sexton, the mayor of Burlington, said at a press conference Saturday morning. "The world knocked on our doorstep and came to our little community here."
Sexton thanked the police for doing a "fantastic job," and said that it's these "times of tragedy" where the community really comes together.
"We want everyone to know we'll get beyond this," Sexton said.
Burlington is about 65 miles north of Seattle.
Other injuries were reported as police searched for the gunman, according to Sgt. Mark Francis, a public information officer with Washington State Patrol District 7. Francis tweeted that emergency medical staff entered the mall to search for more victims.
Some people who were evacuated from the mall were taken to a local church, Francis said.
The FBI's Seattle office says it is assisting local law-enforcement with the investigation. The agency said in a tweet that it currently "has no information to suggest additional attacks planned in [Washington] state."
Police released an image of the man who is believed to be the suspected gunman:

The Cascade Mall is an enclosed shopping center that opened in 1990, according to the mall's website. It features JC Penney, TJ Maxx, and Macy's stores, among others — including some restaurants and a movie theater.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee released a statement on the shooting late Friday, saying, "Tragedy has struck in Washington tonight. Our hearts are in Burlington."
The shooting follows an incident at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in which eight people were injured in a mass stabbing on Saturday. A suspect with a knife who was dressed in a private security uniform made references to Allah while attacking at least eight people there. The suspect was shot dead by an off-duty police officer, authorities said.
ISIS claimed responsibility for that attack.
