Shoprite joins the Made-in-Nigeria train
The Made-in-Nigeria discourse is presently dominating major political, economic and social development landscapes in Nigeria.
The Made-in-Nigeria concept is gaining massive acceptance from policy makers, politician and corporate organisations. The latest to the join the trail is Shoprite Nigeria, one of the biggest grocery and retail store in Nigeria.
The grocery store launched its Made in Nigeria initiative yesterday, Thursday, April 6, 2017, in a show of commitment to promoting locally manufactured goods.
The event, which was held in Lagos, was attended by local businesses, both current suppliers of the store and prospective businesses looking to get more market exposure.
The CEO and Co-Founder of Wilsons Juice Company, Mr. Seyi Abolaji, noted the initiative would help grow small businesses in the country.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase products made in Nigeria on a national scale through Africa’s leading retail chain, and an opportunity to get the support your business needs to successfully bring your product to market,” Abolaji said.
Shoprite started operations in Nigeria in December 2015 with the Palms Shopping Malls along Lekki Expressway, Lagos. Today, the retail store is in over Eight states with 17 stores across Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Shoprite Nigeria, Olufemi Oke – the Regional Manager of Shoprite Nigeria, stated that "this initiative is aimed at boosting local business and contribute towards growing the economy".
The mall currently source over 80 percent of its goods from local manufacturers. This is as a result of the need to meet the demand of its growing customers base.
