Hussein Danoon and Shahad Abed today had a wedding ceremony at Khazer camp, Iraq and it was a rare sight of celebration at the refugee station.

The couple had earlier had to flee the ceaseless fighting in Mosul, Iraq, just a month before their eventual wedding date, February 16, 2017.
To prepare them for the ceremony – a really rare occasion in the camp – the couple were helped out of the refugee camp where the bride was prepared at a beauty salon and dressed in bridal Kurdish clothes.

According to AP, “the two are Arabs, but the camp management said the clothing symbolized coexistence [and unity of hearts].”

Abed, 16, is eligible under Iraqi law for marriage because though the legal age is 18, a 15 year old could marry with parental permission.

In a lofty mansion or in a ghetto in the valley, love’s brightness forever shines unhindered…
