Social Media hacks you need to know

There is a lot you can do with social media and some of the features are less than obvious. Keep reading to learn social media tips that you may have been unaware of.

Social media hacks for Instagram

social media1. Hide and reorder filters

I use Instagram a lot and if you are like me you have 2 or 3 favourite filters and hardly use the rest. This is an especially great feature to know if you try to maintain a theme for your Instagram page which requires using the same or similar filter for most pictures. All you have to do for this is upload a picture and begin editing. Scroll as far as you can to the right and click on the square that says “manage”.
To hide filters uncheck the circle on the right hand side. To re-order filters hold your finger down on the grey lines and drag them up or down to place in whichever order you wish. Out of all the social media hacks out there we guarantee this will save you time

2. Edit your photos without having to post them

This is a quick way to add filters and edit pictures without downloading any additional apps onto your phone. If you want an easy way to edit a picture for Facebook or a website but don’t want it to be posted to Instagram this one is for you.
Make sure that in your Instagram settings you have “save original photos turned on”. Next switch your phone to airplane mode. Follow the steps to uploading a picture and edit it however you want. When you share the post it will fail but a copy of the edited picture will be in your photo gallery.

3. Hide photos your tagged in from your profile

Instagram doesn’t make it as obvious to ‘untag’ yourself from photos much like Facebook does. Everyone has a camera on their phone now so you are bound to be tagged in some pictures of yourself you don’t like. I know I put this to social mediause when I learned it.
Here is what you do: Go to your Instagram page and click on the icon that displays photos of you. Click on a picture of yourself you don’t want your followers to be able to see. Tap the picture then tap your username that is tagged. This will open up a box that allows you to change the settings to “hide from my profile”.

Social media hacks for Facebook

1. Don’t just creep your friends. Creep your competition too!

We are all guilty of creeping people on Facebook but did you know you can spy on people’s pages too? This is one of the greatest social media hacks for business owners who have a Facebook page.
To do this go to the ‘Insights’ tab on your page. When you scroll all the way to the bottom you will see a “pages to watch section”. You can add any page you want to this list and keep an eye on the ‘insights’ of these pages. This will definitely give you an edge on your competition.

2. Facebook Messenger

At first we were all annoyed when Facebook forced us to download a separate app to communicate with our friends. However, the app has evolved to be much more than just a platform to chat with friends. You can now integrate many apps into messenger by clicking the three dots. Here are just some of the things you can do with it
  • Directly share dropbox files as long as you have messenger and the dropbox app on your phone
  • Easily share your location. Or a location to a place nearby.
  • Share your Spotify playlists and songs
  • If you want to have a little more fun with it there are endless ways to send GIFS and Memes to friends and family!

Social Media Hacks for Snapchat

1. Share your content on other social media platforms

One of the unique things about Snapchat is that it offers real time videos and pictures and there is no place for people to “like” or “share” your content. Just because there is no way to do this in the app doesn’t mean you should’t be sharing your snapchat content. If you share content on other platforms you can easily direct people to your snapchat by sharing a URL that people can click on to add you. All you have to do is go into “add friends” and click “share username”.

2. Use Snapchat as a picture editor

This is the same concept as using Instagram to edit pictures. If you already have Snapchat on your phone and don’t want to download a separate photo editing app this is a great tip for you. Just snap a picture and add whatever filters, writing and emojis you choose. Instead of clicking the arrow that you would use to post the snapchat, click the downward facing arrow beside the timer and it will save to your photo gallery. Then just click the exit button on the top right of the screen and the picture will not be posted to Snapchat.

social media3. Find out what trophies you have earned in Snapchat

Snapchat not only puts emojis beside your friends usernames but you can also earn emojis in the “trophy” section of Snapchat. When you are on the main screen of Snapchat click on the ghost icon. When the page switches there is a trophy at the top. By clicking on the trophy you can see which ones you’ve unlocked. Every trophy has a different meaning. Some are rewarded for sending out a certain number of pictures and videos while others are earned for the time of day you have sent snapchats. It becomes a lot of fun when you try to unlock them all!

 Social Media Hacks for Twitter

1. Research your hashtags

Using the right hashtags will help you gain the most followers. You can research hashtags two ways: using twitter’s search function or using outside hashtag tools. Let’s start with twitter. If you search for a hashtag you can click on “more options” to research it more specifically. You have the option of seeing where the hashtag is used in tweets, accounts, photos and videos. You can also change the search options to see everyone who has used it or just people you follow or people nearby.
You can also use hashtags tools such as websites like HashAtIt.com. The great thing about this website is that it will search all social media websites for your hashtag.

2. Use trending hashtags

Every once in a while it can be a good idea use the trending hashtags in your tweets. A lot of people are likely to click on the trending hashtags so you have a good chance of being discovered, followed or re-tweeted!

3. Pin a tweet

If you have a tweet or information you want people to immediately see when they visit your twitter you can pin a tweet that will stay at the top of the page. To do this, click the three dots on the bottom of your tweet and select “pin to profile page”. However, you can only do this with your own tweets and not something you have retweeted.

4. Make a reply show up in your followers feeds

If you reply to a tweet it usually will not show up in your followers feed. However you can get around this by adding a “.” before the tweet. For example .@ShakeMedia
